Min Joo Lee

Min Joo Lee is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Asian Studies at Occidental College. She holds a B.A. from Williams College and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Her research and teaching expertise are positioned at the intersection of Asian Studies, Gender Studies, and Media Studies, with a focus on South Korean gender and race relations, transnational feminism, transnational media, and sexuality and eroticism. Her first book project, Finding Mr. Perfect: Korean Television Dramas, Romance, and Race, examines the gendered and racial politics of Korean popular culture. The second project, Digital Rape: Illicit Pornography, Sexual Consent, and Race, analyzes illegal sex videos' transnational dissemination.

Her recent publications explore themes such as digital sexual violence, K-Pop fandom, caregiving in Korean dramas, queer representation, and Hallyu tourism. Prior to Occidental, she worked at Wellesley College and Indiana University, Bloomington. She teaches courses on Korean society, popular culture, and gender topics, emphasizing transnational and intersectional frameworks.
