Min Fang, MD, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Washington and a Professor in the Translational Science and Therapeutics Division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. She serves as Director of the Cytogenetics and Genomics Division at both institutions and holds an Adjunct Professorship in Laboratory Medicine at the University of Washington. Dr. Fang is board-certified in Clinical Molecular Genetics and Clinical Cytogenetics and currently serves as President of the Cancer Genomics Consortium (CGC).
Her educational background includes:
- MD from Shanghai Medical University (1990)
- PhD from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (1998)
- Fellowship in Clinical Molecular Genetics and Clinical Cytogenetics at Stanford University Medical Center (2001)
Dr. Fang's research focuses on genomic and epigenetic aberrations in human cancers, employing advanced tools like next-generation sequencing and whole genome sequencing to identify biomarkers for cancer diagnosis and treatment. Her current projects investigate disseminated tumor cells in prostate cancer metastasis and methylation profiling in acute myeloid leukemia to develop prognostic and predictive biomarkers.
She has held leadership roles including Cytogenetics Subcommittee Chair of SWOG Leukemia Committee since 2009 and former Board Member of the Association for Molecular Pathology. Her research is funded by the National Institutes of Health, SWOG, and private foundations.
Prior to her current positions, Dr. Fang served as Director of Human Molecular Genetics Laboratory and Section Chief for Oncology Cytogenetic Testing at the University of Connecticut Health Center.
