Milan Babic is an Associate Professor of Political Economy at the Department of Political Science, University of Amsterdam, and Principal Investigator (PI) of the DECARB Project. He concurrently holds a visiting researcher position at Roskilde University's Department of Social Sciences and Business. His academic journey includes a PhD from the University of Amsterdam (2016–2020) and an M.A. in Political Science, Economics, and Philosophy from the University of Tübingen (2016).
Research Focus: Babic’s work centers on global political economy transformations, particularly the shift from neoliberal to post-neoliberal orders. His three core research streams explore state transformations beyond neoliberalism, the crisis of the liberal international order, and decarbonization strategies. He critically examines state power dynamics, geoeconomic competition, and the role of transnational state capital in reshaping global governance frameworks.
Teaching & Supervision: He teaches courses on political economy, international political economy (IPE), globalization, and environmental politics. He actively supervises BA/MA theses in International Relations, IPE, Comparative Politics, and Environmental Politics.
Key Projects: He led the Tracking and Visualizing States as Fossil-Fuel Owners project (2022), focusing on state-owned fossil fuel assets and decarbonization challenges. His research has been featured in outlets like Review of International Political Economy and New Political Economy.
