About
Dr. Miki Ii serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Medical Genetics at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM), teaching Biochemistry, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Human Physiology, and Human Anatomy to medical students in the Osteopathic Medicine program.
Her academic credentials include a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Kyushu University (Japan), complemented by Master of Science and Bachelor of Sciences degrees from Kagoshima University.
Research centers on DNA repair and genome stability as foundational mechanisms preventing neurodegeneration, cancer, and aging. Her laboratory utilizes Caenorhabditis elegans to dissect how DNA repair factors govern DNA integrity and gene expression in disease contexts, leveraging this Nobel Prize-recognized model for high-impact biomedical insights into neurological disorders and oncogenesis.
Dr. Ii has mentored over forty students in year-long research projects, integrating her expertise into medical education to emphasize scientific methodology. Her ongoing work explores therapeutic targets linking DNA repair deficiencies to age-related pathologies, fostering student engagement in translational research.
