About
Mikhail Shifman is a Professor at the School of Physics and Astronomy and holds the Ida Cohen Fine Chair in Theoretical Physics at the William I. Fine Theoretical Physics Institute, University of Minnesota. His research focuses on high-energy and theoretical physics, with key contributions in quantum chromodynamics (QCD), supersymmetric theories, axions, and applications of sigma models to condensed matter systems. He has been affiliated with the High Energy Theory research group.
Research Interests: From 1972-1982 and 1990-1995, he studied QCD, strong interaction physics, heavy quark physics, and axions. From 1982-1990 and since 1996, he explored supersymmetric theories at strong coupling. Since 2003, his work has centered on supersymmetric solitons and sigma models, including their condensed matter applications.
