Dr. Mike Prentice is a Senior Lecturer in Korean Studies at the University of Sheffield, affiliated with the School of Languages, Arts and Societies. He holds a PhD in Linguistic Anthropology from the University of Michigan and has served as Director of Undergraduate Studies since 2021.
- Formerly held a Korea Foundation postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University
- UKRI-funded network leader for Sociolinguistic Futures between UK and South Korea (2021-2023)
His research focuses on workplace communication in South Korea, examining how linguistic and material artifacts (e.g., job titles, PowerPoint presentations) mediate corporate hierarchies and democratic participation. Current projects analyze the platform Blind and its impact on workplace transparency.
Recent publications include his monograph Supercorporate (Stanford UP, 2022) and articles in the Journal of Cultural Economy and International Journal of the Sociology of Language. His work has received funding from Fulbright, Wenner-Gren, and UKRI.

As Director of Undergraduate Studies, he oversees student welfare, disability liaison, and student-staff committees. He teaches Korean Studies, East Asian Studies, and East Asian Business curricula, including courses on Korean War history and digital society dynamics.
