Dr. Mike Kassam is a Professor and Associate Chair (Student Affairs, Undergraduate Studies) in the Department of Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering at Toronto Metropolitan University. He holds a BASc (1976), MASc (1978), and Dr. Univ. (1989) from the University of Toronto and Miskolc University. His expertise spans non-invasive medical diagnostics, biomedical sensors, and System-on-Chip designs.
Over three decades, Dr. Kassam has developed medical devices like automated blood pressure systems and surgical monitoring systems. His teaching philosophy emphasizes student engagement and excellence, inspired by influential educators from his undergraduate years. He has been recognized with the Ryerson IEEE Professor of the Year award.
His research includes patents on surgical object/fluid monitoring systems (2014–2016) and a landmark study on cerebral blood flow in astronauts (2011). He is a Professional Engineer (PEO) and Senior Member of IEEE.
