Dr. Mike Gowanlock is an Associate Professor in the School of Informatics, Computing, and Cyber Systems at Northern Arizona University. His research develops parallel algorithms and data-intensive computing frameworks for scientific applications in astronomy, ecology, and cybersecurity.
Key projects include the Solar System Notification Alert Processing System (SNAPS) for asteroid detection using Rubin Observatory data, GPU-accelerated outlier detection algorithms, and high-throughput cryptographic systems. His NSF CAREER award supports research enabling time-domain astronomy through heterogeneous computing architectures.
Dr. Gowanlock teaches courses in parallel programming, GPU computing, and high-performance computing. He advises multiple graduate and undergraduate students and has received several best paper awards for his work on parallel clustering and similarity joins.
