Dr. Mike D’Errico is an Associate Professor of Music & Computer Science, Director of Music Technology & Composition, and Chair of the Music Department at Albright College. He holds a Ph.D. in Musicology from UCLA, an M.A. in Music from Tufts University, and a B.M. in Music Education from the University of New Hampshire. His research focuses on hip-hop, electronic dance music, music technology, and digital media, with notable work on software design’s cultural impact. He is the author of Push: Software Design and the Cultural Politics of Music Production (Oxford UP, 2022), and has contributed to journals like Journal of Popular Music Studies and Music, Sound, and the Moving Image.
Dr. D’Errico founded Albright’s Electronic Digital Instrument program and the Albright Rap Collective. His creative work includes sound design for virtual reality and experimental video games, as well as mobile apps for multimedia annotation. Professional activities include roles on the executive committee of the US branch of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music, and editorial work for Echo and Ethnomusicology Review.
His awards include the Class of ’49 Annadora Vesper Shirk Award for Faculty Scholarship (2022) and grants from the Reading Music Foundation. Teaching spans courses in music theory, technology, industry studies, and game design, reflecting his interdisciplinary approach to music and digital culture.
