Dr. Mike Alvarez is an Assistant Professor of Communication at the University of New Hampshire, affiliated with the College of Liberal Arts. His research focuses on mental health communication, end-of-life communication, and discursive practices surrounding suicide. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, alongside degrees from Goddard College and Rutgers University.

Dr. Alvarez has received the Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship and the NCA's Outstanding Creative Project Award. He serves on the editorial board of Qualitative Research in Medicine & Healthcare and previously contributed to NCA's Mental Health Task Force.
