Dr. Mikael Hartman is an Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore (NUS), holding joint appointments in the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health and the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. He is also a Senior Consultant in Breast and Trauma Surgery at the National University Hospital. His primary research focuses on breast cancer etiology, prognostication, and the genetic and environmental factors influencing cancer outcomes.
Dr. Hartman completed his MD at the Karolinska Institutet (1997), board certification in General Surgery in Sweden (2005), and a PhD in Epidemiology (2007). He leads the Singapore Breast Cancer Cohort and the Breast Cancer Prevention Programme, coordinating multi-institutional research efforts across Asia. His clinical expertise includes breast cancer surgery and trauma management.
Research Interests: His work spans breast cancer genetics, pharmacogenomics, and public health interventions to improve screening and risk stratification. He pioneered initiatives like the Asian Breast Cancer Research Fund and led high-impact studies on mammographic density and polygenic risk scores.
