Michèle Bokobza Kahan is Full Professor in French Culture and Literature at Tel Aviv University's Department of Literature within the Lesler and Sally Entin Faculty of Humanities. She holds The Henri Glasberg Chair in Culture of Modern France and serves on Tel Aviv University's Executive Council since 2022, while also acting as Faculty's Representative for Equity and Diversity Commission.
Her research focuses on 18th Century French literature and culture, specializing in libertine novels, religious testimonies, marginal authors, and theoretical approaches to fiction. Key areas include Enlightenment-era philosophical conflicts, gender studies in literature, emigration narratives in female-authored novels, and testimonial discourses spanning three centuries. Her work bridges historical analysis with contemporary discourse theory.
Bokobza Kahan has established significant international academic presence through lectures at universities including Bologna, Salamanca, Sorbonne Nouvelle, Oxford, Oslo, and Konstanz. She serves on the editorial board of Editions Peeters (coll. La République des Lettres) and acts as Israel correspondent for Studi Francesi literary review. Current research centers on emigration and hospitality themes in French Revolutionary-era novels.
