Michelle Whyman

Miriam Whyman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Florida State University (FSU), part of the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy (COSSPP). She holds a Ph.D. in Government from the University of Texas at Austin (2016). Her research focuses on U.S. Congress, lawmaking processes, legal stability, and broader themes in American political institutions.

Research Interests: Her expertise spans American political institutions, congressional dynamics, public policy formulation, political parties, and classical political philosophy. She also engages in data visualization to analyze legislative processes and bureaucratic systems.

Awards:

• Recipient of the 2019 Richard F. Fenno, Jr. Prize (American Political Science Association) for her co-authored book The Great Broadening.

Professional Presence: Office located at Bellamy 551 (by appointment). Active in teaching and advising within the Political Science department, contributing to FSU’s Master of Applied American Politics & Policy program.
