Michelle McKinley is the Bernard B. Kliks Professor of Law at the University of Oregon School of Law and Director of the Center for the Study of Women in Society. She has taught at multiple institutions including the University of Hawai'i, Universidad de los Andes, University of Kansas, Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, and Princeton University.
Her research focuses on Public International Law, feminist legal studies, Latin American legal history, and the law of slavery. She holds a JD from Harvard Law School (cum laude, 1995) and a Master's in Social Anthropology from Oxford University.

Her publications include Fractional Freedoms: Slavery, Intimacy and Legal Mobilization in Colonial Lima, 1600-1700 (Cambridge, 2016), which won the Judy Ewell Prize and received an honorary mention from the Law and Society Association.

She has received research fellowships from the American Council of Learned Societies, National Science Foundation, NEH, American Philosophical Society, and Newberry Library. Notably, she was a 2014 fellow at Princeton's Program in Law and Public Affairs.
