Dr. Michelle M. Gerdes serves as a Lecturer at the United States Military Academy (USMA), working within the Center for Enhanced Performance (CEP). She oversees the First Year and Beyond program and international cadet academic programming while teaching Student Success and Reading Efficiency courses. Additionally, she acts as an officer representative for the women's softball team.
Her educational qualifications include:
- Ed.D. in Developmental Education from Grambling State University
- M.Ed. in School Counseling from LIU
- M.Ed. in Math Education from Duquesne University
- B.A. in Sociology/Anthropology from Colgate University
Dr. Gerdes' research centers on enhancing academic outcomes in higher education, with specialized focus on support systems for nontraditional learners and pathways to degree completion for student-athletes. Her work directly informs USMA's cadet development programs through evidence-based academic interventions.
Outside professional duties, she maintains active engagement with sports culture as a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers supporter and enthusiast of all Army athletic programs, complemented by extensive travel experience across all 50 U.S. states.
