Dr. Michelle Gray is an Associate Professor and Dean at the Faculty of Forestry and Environmental Management, University of New Brunswick. She also serves as Science Director with the Canadian Rivers Institute (CRI). Her expertise spans environmental monitoring, aquatic ecosystem health, and impact assessment methodologies.
Dr. Gray holds a BSc in Biology and Environmental Science (Trent University), an MSc in Watershed Ecosystems (Trent University), and a PhD in Biology (UNB). Her research focuses on developing monitoring tools for environmental assessment, with emphasis on long-term data analysis and novel approaches for aquatic health evaluation.
Her work includes designing monitoring programs for mining, agriculture, and shale gas development, as well as refining Canada’s Environmental Effects Monitoring (EEM) guidelines. Current research explores small-bodied fish species as bioindicators and integrates LiDAR technology for habitat modeling.
Teaching responsibilities include courses like Environmental Impact Assessment and Fisheries Techniques. She emphasizes practical skills such as water quality analysis and field methods through initiatives like the Canadian Aquatic Biomonitoring Network (CABIN).
