Michelle Fenech

Michelle Fenech is a Senior Lecturer in Medical Sonography at Central Queensland University's School of Health, Medical and Applied Sciences. She holds a PhD from Queensland University of Technology and is a certified medical sonographer and radiographer with extensive clinical experience. Her roles include Deputy Editor of the 'Ultrasound' journal (BMUS), Chair of the Musculoskeletal Special Interest Group (MSK SIG) of the Australasian Sonographers Association (ASA), and membership in the ASA Education Advisory Committee. She is a Fellow of the ASA and a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (PFHEA).

Educational background includes a PhD in ankle ligament injuries (2020), an undergraduate degree in Medical Imaging Technology (QUT), and specialization in MRI during her clinical career. She pioneered MRI installations at Wesley Hospital and Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane.

Research focuses on musculoskeletal ultrasound, imaging anatomy, and learning pedagogy. Her work includes lymph node metastasis assessment, nerve imaging techniques, and online anatomy education strategies. She has received the ASA Pru Pratten Lifetime Achievement Award (2022) and Sonographer of the Year (2022). She actively supervises research in biomedical sciences, clinical education, and allied health.

Teaching includes coordinating units like MEDS11002 Relational Anatomy and Image Recognition. She promotes innovative teaching methods such as 'Virtual café' sessions for online student collaboration. Her clinical affiliations include the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital and Department of Defence collaborations.

Michelle is a frequent keynote speaker at national/international conferences and contributes to the CREATE research center at CQU focusing on teaching equity and advancement.
