Michelle Cottier is a Full Professor of Civil Law and Director of the Center for Legislative Study, Technique and Evaluation (CETEL) at the University of Geneva. She holds a doctorate from the University of Basel (2005) and has taught at Humboldt University, Basel, Zurich, and Lucerne. Her research spans personal and family law, children's rights, sociology of law, and gender perspectives in law.

She previously served as an assistant professor at the University of Basel and deputy judge at the Court of Appeal of Basel-Stadt.
