Michelle Cottier

Michelle Cottier is a Full Professor of Civil Law and Director of the Center for Legislative Study, Technique and Evaluation (CETEL) at the University of Geneva. She holds a doctorate from the University of Basel (2005) and has taught at Humboldt University, Basel, Zurich, and Lucerne. Her research spans personal and family law, children's rights, sociology of law, and gender perspectives in law.

• Expert for Swiss National Science Foundation’s Gender Equality Commission and FL-EUR Family Law in Europe network

Her funded research projects include Integrity, autonomy and participation in child protection (NRP 76) and The negotiation of divorce agreements and gender (in)equality in Switzerland. She previously served as an assistant professor at the University of Basel and deputy judge at the Court of Appeal of Basel-Stadt.
