Dr. Michelle Chen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and a Core Member of the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research at Rutgers University. She holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Yeshiva University and completed postdoctoral training at Kessler Foundation. Her research focuses on leveraging digital and sensor technologies to assess and treat cognitive dysfunction in neurological conditions like multiple sclerosis (MS) and post-COVID-19 fatigue. She leads studies on smartphone typing dynamics as biomarkers of cognitive status and digital lifestyle interventions to combat cognitive decline. Dr. Chen has received NIH funding for her work on health risk factors for MS-related cognitive decline and was awarded a Rutgers Collaborative Multidisciplinary Award for physiological biomarker research. She is also affiliated with the Institute’s centers, including the Center for Healthy Aging Research and the Institute’s neuroscience initiatives.
Her research bridges neuropsychology with technology, emphasizing remote monitoring and adaptive interventions. Recent highlights include investigating real-world biomarkers of post-COVID fatigue using wearable sensors and presenting findings at international conferences such as the INS Meeting in Taiwan. Dr. Chen’s awards reflect her contributions to advancing digital health equity and translational neuroscience.
