Michele Goodwin is the Chancellor’s Professor of Law at the University of California, Irvine School of Law, and Founding Director of the Center for Biotechnology and Global Health Policy. She holds a visiting position as a Provost’s Distinguished Visiting Faculty Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine, Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy. Her work bridges health law, bioethics, and racial justice, with a focus on reproductive rights and systemic inequalities.
Research interests include the criminalization of motherhood, bioethical governance of emerging technologies, and the intersection of law with race, gender, and global health. Key publications include *Policing the Womb* (2020) and *Black Markets* (2006), alongside over 100 scholarly works. Her articles address urgent topics such as abortion access, FDA jurisdiction over reproductive technologies, and international humanitarian law in conflict zones.
As a Fellow, she collaborates with Penn faculty, mentors students, and engages the public through lectures and panels.
