Michele Carbone is a tenured Professor of Pathology and Director of Thoracic Oncology at the University of Hawaii Cancer Center, affiliated with the John A. Burns School of Medicine. He holds additional roles as Senior Advisor on Health Sciences to the Vice-Chancellor for Research and serves as a Professor 'per chiara fama' in Anatomical Pathology at Università Magna Grecia (Italy). His work focuses on cancer susceptibility, particularly the BAP1 cancer syndrome and mesothelioma mechanisms.
- Education: MD from University of Rome 'La Sapienza' (1984), PhD in Human Pathology (1993), Board Certifications in Anatomic Pathology (Italy/USA).
- Research: Pioneering studies on BAP1 mutations and asbestos carcinogenesis. Multidisciplinary collaboration drives his work on genetic cancer predisposition.
He leads the Mesothelioma Task Force at the International Association for Study of Lung Cancer and directed the University of Hawaii Cancer Center (2008–2014). Awards include the AACR-Landon Innovator Award and the Wagner Medal.
