Michela Matteoli

Michela Matteoli is a Full Professor of Pharmacology at the Department of Biotechnology and Translational Medicine, University of Milano, Italy. She also serves as Director of the lab 'Pharmacology and Brain Pathology' at the Clinical and Research Center Humanitas in Milano. Her career spans over three decades with significant contributions to neuroscience and pharmacology, particularly in neurodegenerative and psychiatric diseases. She has held leadership roles in academic institutions and founded the spin-off NeuroZone srl.

Education:

• PhD in Pharmacology from University of Pisa (1989).
• Postdoctoral fellow at Yale University School of Medicine (1989-1991).
• Visiting Scientist at University of Virginia School of Medicine, Department of Neuroscience (1989-1991).

Research Interests: Her work focuses on synaptic plasticity, astrocyte-neuron communication, and the role of glial cells in neurological diseases. She has pioneered studies on the molecular mechanisms underlying synaptic transmission and neurodegeneration, linking astrocyte dysfunction to conditions like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
