Michela Canepari is a full Professor at the Department of Humanities, Social Sciences and Cultural Enterprises, University of Parma. She holds a PhD in English Literature from the University of Sussex (UK), an MA in Critical Theory, and a BA in Foreign Languages and Literatures. Her academic roles include President of the Master in Specialized Translation, Rector’s Delegate and Director of the University Linguistic Centre, and Coordinator of CLIL courses across Italy.
Her research spans Translation Studies, Discourse Analysis, and English for Special Purposes, with a focus on intralingual translation strategies, intersemiotic adaptation of scientific/artistic texts, and CLIL methodology. She leads the international research project Medical Humanities and Medical Language Teaching with Tirgu Mures University (RO).
Key publication themes include: the translation of constructed languages in science fiction (Tolkien, Star Wars), semiotic challenges in medical discourse, and the pedagogical potential of comics/video games. She serves on editorial boards of journals like Torre di Babele and International Journal of English Linguistics, and directs academic book series.
Teaching activities encompass courses at the University of Parma for the Language Sciences and Cultural Studies for Special Needs master’s program, doctoral schools, and secondary education CLIL training. Third-mission projects include public lectures on Tolkien’s languages and workshops for schools on medical humanities.
