His research focuses on modern European cultural history, gender/sexuality studies, and historiography. Notable themes include fin-de-siècle Parisian masculinity, avant-garde artistic subcultures, and the intersection of visual culture with social marginality. Recent work examines bohemian identity, Belle Époque print culture, and the history of male same-sex sexuality.
His publications consistently analyze how cultural forms like literature, visual media, and material artifacts shaped societal perceptions of gender, sexuality, and class in late 19th-early 20th century Europe. A 2005 Residential Fellowship at the Camargo Foundation in France supported this work.
