Dr. Michael Walter is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Northern Iowa, College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on virology, particularly bacteriophages that target Bacillus anthracis, and includes both basic and applied approaches. He studies phage diversity in soil ecosystems and develops phage-based technologies for spore detection and decontamination.
His research interests include virology, bioinformatics applications, and environmental microbiology. Dr. Walter collaborates with molecular biology, environmental microbiology, and computer science departments, and teaches courses in microbiology, virology, and bioinformatics.
