About
Michael Tracy serves as a Teaching Assistant Professor in the School of Art & Design within East Carolina University's College of Fine Arts and Communication. He manages the GlasStation, a specialized glass art facility located in Farmville, NC approximately 15 miles from main campus, where he teaches both academic courses and community programs.
Professor Tracy holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Illinois State University. His artistic practice forms a conceptual bridge between scientific disciplines and expressive art forms, with thematic explorations spanning insects, anatomy, physics, astronomy, human senses, and mechanical drafting. Working primarily in glass and graphite, he creates both two-dimensional drawings and three-dimensional sculptures that merge expressionism with super-realism.
His methodology deliberately combines tight formal lines with loose expressive forms, and representational elements with abstract concepts. Each artwork functions as a fragmented self-portrait where component parts reinforce one another to achieve holistic completeness. The GlasStation serves as the operational center for his studio practice and instructional activities, supporting both degree-seeking students and community engagement initiatives through specialized glass art education.
