Michael T. Kleinman is a Professor of Environmental Toxicology and Co-Director of the Air Pollution Health Effects Laboratory (APHEL) at the University of California, Irvine. He holds an adjunct appointment in the School of Medicine and has been a faculty member since 1982.

His research focuses on the cardiopulmonary and neurological health effects of air pollution, particularly ambient particles and nanomaterials. Using immunological, molecular, and in vitro methods, his work explores oxidative stress and free radical mechanisms in sensitive human and animal models. Recent studies highlight the allergenic potential of particulate matter near traffic sources and its spatial attenuation patterns.
