He completed residency training in Internal Medicine, a fellowship in Infectious Diseases, and a Molecular Medicine fellowship at the University of California San Francisco.
His research focuses on Mycobacterium tuberculosis pathogenesis, integrating molecular genetics, cell biology, and metabolomics to investigate host-pathogen interactions. Key areas include:
- Mechanisms of mycobacterial entry and immune evasion
- Role of autophagy and ubiquitin signaling in host defense
- Neuronal activation and cough induction pathways
- Development of novel vaccines and therapeutics
Honors include:
- James P. Luby, M.D. Professorship in Infectious Diseases
- Election to the American Society of Clinical Investigation
He leads the Shiloh Lab, focusing on integrated approaches to tuberculosis research using molecular, bioinformatic, and metabolomic tools.
