Michael Sean Funk is a Clinical Associate Professor and Program Director of Higher and Postsecondary Education at New York University's Steinhardt School. He holds a M.A. from Steinhardt and a Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst's Social Justice Education program. His work focuses on equity, diversity, and inclusion in higher education, with particular attention to Black student experiences and inclusive pedagogy.
- Current roles: Program Coordinator for the M.A. in Higher Education and Student Affairs, Faculty Fellow in Founders Residence Hall, and Steinhardt Knowledge Partner.
Research interests include anti-racist teaching practices, social justice in PWIs, and leadership in higher education. His publications address classroom inclusivity and systemic racism in academic settings.
- Recent contributions: Co-authored racism chapters in Readings and Teaching for Diversity and Social Justice and authored a chapter on inclusive classrooms in College at the Crossroads.
Awards include the Star Award (2017) and Distinguished Teaching Award (2011). He actively contributes to NYU governance via the Continuing Faculty Senate Council and advises student affairs programs.
