Michael S. Allen

Michael S. Allen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Virginia. His work bridges philosophy and religion in South Asia, with broader interests in global philosophy and environmental ethics. He specializes in the intellectual history of Advaita Vedānta, utilizing Sanskrit and early Hindi sources.

Allen earned his PhD from Harvard University, MTS from Harvard Divinity School, and BA from the University of South Carolina. His research explores how South Asian perspectives, particularly vernacular texts, shape contemporary understandings of human-environment relationships and ethics.
