Michael Rugen

Dr. Michael Rugen serves as Research Co-ordinator at the School of Chemistry, Pharmacy and Pharmacology, University of East Anglia (UEA), where he coordinates Professor Rob Field's research group and accepts PhD students for project discussions.

His academic background includes:

• PhD in Biochemistry from John Innes Centre (awarded through UEA), 2011-2015
• MSc in Chemical Biology and Drug Design (Distinction) from University of Leeds, 2010-2011
• BSc in Biochemistry (Class II Division I) from University of Leeds, 2007-2010

With over 10 years of cross-sector experience, Dr. Rugen specializes in glycobiology, biomolecule purification (proteins/DNA/viruses), and chemical biology. His expertise spans technical project execution, laboratory organization, and line management in both academic and commercial environments.

He actively supervises PhD candidates and encourages direct contact for project opportunities within his research domain.

As Research Co-ordinator for Professor Rob Field's group, Dr. Rugen drives glycobiology-focused initiatives while maintaining industry connections through recent roles at Leaf Expression Systems and Iceni Glycoscience.
