Michael Rowe

Michael Rowe is a Professor in the Social Sciences Department at Northumbria University. He holds a PhD in Philosophy awarded in 1998. His research focuses on policing strategies, crime analysis, and social policy, with particular attention to police leadership, community relations, and ethnic diversity in policing. He has authored over 71 publications and supervised six students.

Key research areas include police visibility in digital spaces, unintended consequences of counter-terrorism measures, and historical racial dynamics in policing. He received the British Society of Criminology Hate Studies Network award in 2019 for his work on boundaries and social systems in criminology.

Recent work examines pandemic-era police leadership, police station closures' societal impacts, and cross-national comparisons of minority recruitment in law enforcement. His collaborative projects involve scholars like Davis, Ralph, and Harding, focusing on policing's evolving roles in modern society.

Michael has contributed to policy evaluations such as the Positive Pathways Programme and explored mental health comorbidities in bipolar disorder patients, revealing disparities between U.S. and European healthcare systems.
