Michael Riecke

Michael Riecke is an Associate Professor and Department Chair in the Communication Studies Department at SUNY Oswego. He joined the faculty in 2011 after a decade in television and digital news as an award-winning reporter, producer, and anchor. His roles include advising campus television station WTOP-TV and co-coordinating the Hollywood POV program. Riecke holds a B.S. in Broadcast Journalism from Syracuse University and an M.S. in Education from Le Moyne College.

Research Focus: Multiplatform reporting, television news producing, LGBT representation in media, and media's role in Rust Belt economic issues. His professional experience includes international reporting (e.g., 2004 tsunami coverage in Sri Lanka, Hurricane Katrina coverage) and leadership roles at WSYR-TV/WIVT-TV.

• Recognition from Associated Press, New York State Broadcasters Association, and Syracuse Press Club

Labs/Teams: Advises WTOP-TV and coordinates the Hollywood POV program. Member of Broadcast Education Association, Promax BDA Academic Advisory Council, and Syracuse Press Club Board of Directors.
