Michael Ramsammy is a Reader in Linguistics at the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences, University of Edinburgh, where he teaches undergraduate courses in Historical Linguistics and Language Variation and Change, and postgraduate courses including Introduction to Phonology and Historical Linguistics. He serves as Programme Director for the MSc in Linguistics, overseeing curriculum development and student admissions.
His research spans multiple linguistic domains with emphasis on:

Dr. Ramsammy actively supervises six PhD candidates and has guided diverse theses including Lebanese phonetics, Romance clisis, plurilingualism in Spanish acquisition, Bangla morphological variation, and sociophonetic studies of Austrian German and Derby adolescents. His supervision extends to interdisciplinary topics such as iconicity in British Sign Language acquisition and stylistic variation in drag performance.
