Michael R Strain

Michael R. Strain is Professor of the Practice at Georgetown University's McCourt School of Public Policy and Director of Economic Policy Studies at the American Enterprise Institute, where he holds the Arthur F. Burns Chair. His research spans labor markets, public finance, social policy, and macroeconomics.

Author of 'The American Dream Is Not Dead: (But Populism Could Kill It)', Dr. Strain challenges pessimistic economic narratives through analysis of long-term outcomes for workers and households. A frequent commentator in major media outlets, he writes regular columns for Project Syndicate and has testified before Congress.

Additional affiliations include research fellowships at IZA Institute for Labor Economics and the Institute for Research on Poverty. He holds a PhD in economics from Cornell University and previously worked at the U.S. Census Bureau and Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
