Michael Pratt is an Adjunct Professor at Emory University's Hubert Department of Global Health (Rollins School of Public Health) and a visiting professor at the Federal University of Pelotas (Brazil). He will serve as incoming director of UCSD's Institute for Public Health. He holds additional adjunct roles at los Andes University (Colombia) and maintains global health leadership roles. Dr. Pratt has advanced degrees including a Medical Degree, Master's in Exercise Physiology (University of Washington), MPH (University of Minnesota), and completed the EIS epidemiology fellowship at CDC.
His career includes senior CDC leadership roles such as Chief of the Physical Activity and Health Branch, and founding the CDC-WHO Collaborating Center for Physical Activity and Health. He created the International Physical Activity and Public Health Course, and advises global initiatives like the Lancet Physical Activity Observatory.
Research focuses on global physical activity policy, chronic disease prevention strategies, and evidence-based public health practice. With over 150 publications, he is a highly cited researcher in preventive medicine and public health.
