Michael Porter

Michael Porter served as a Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Missouri for 35 years (1979-2014). He retired in 2014 and currently resides in La Crosse, Wisconsin with his wife, Rose. Known for his dedication to education, he taught over 350 students per semester in the media in society course, alongside courses in Senior Capstone, TV studio production, Mass Communication Theory, and Television Criticism.

His research emphasized media literacy, focusing on how media shapes public perception of societal issues. Porter’s contributions to teaching were widely recognized through prestigious awards, including national and state-level distinctions for excellence in education.
