Michael Polemis is a Professor of Industrial Economics at the University of Piraeus and a Member of the Hellenic Competition Commission since 2017. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His research focuses on industrial organization, competition policy, energy economics, and environmental economics. He has authored over 80 peer-reviewed articles in top journals like European Journal of Operational Research and Energy Economics, as well as five books. His work often examines market structure, regulatory impact, and sustainability.
Teaching includes undergraduate and graduate courses in Industrial Economics, Environmental Economics, and Energy Markets. He has received awards for peer reviewing from journals such as Econometrica and Energy Policy. His research spans topics like renewable energy investments, gasoline price dynamics, and the environmental Kuznets curve. Recent studies include analyzing carbon pass-through mechanisms and the role of competition in pollution reduction. He is also involved in policy analysis, including EU competition law and regulatory frameworks.
