Michael Paris

Michael Paris is an Associate Professor and Chairperson at the College of Staten Island (CSI), part of the City University of New York (CUNY). He serves as the Director of CSI’s Legal Studies Institute and Pre-Law Advisor. His teaching focuses on constitutional law, civil liberties, and law & public policy. Paris holds a Ph.D. in Politics (Brandeis University, 1998), J.D. (Columbia Law School, 1986), and B.A. in Political Science (Hobart College, 1983).

His research explores school desegregation, legal reform, and educational equity. Key works include Framing Equal Opportunity (Stanford UP, 2010) and the forthcoming The Death and Life of School Desegregation. His scholarship has been recognized with CSI’s 2011 Dolphin Award for Teaching and an honorable mention for the C. Herman Pritchett Award.

Paris has secured grants from the Spencer Foundation and CUNY’s Research Foundation. His recent publications analyze racial liberalism in school desegregation jurisprudence and the intersection of law, politics, and education.

He advises students pursuing legal careers and oversees the Legal Studies Institute, fostering interdisciplinary legal education.
