Michael Newman is a Senior Lecturer at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), specializing in architecture and design education. He holds a BA in Design of the Environment from the University of Pennsylvania (1985) and an MArch from the University of Illinois at Chicago (1992). His professional work focuses on public interest design, sustainability, and social justice, co-founding SHED Studio (an architectural firm addressing affordability and community planning) and Territory (a design-and-build program for youth). He also serves as ARE Prep Coordinator for AIAChicago and contributes to Black Spectacles' online architecture tutorials.
Teaching spans over 20 years at SAIC, IIT, UIC, and Andrews University, covering design studios, technical systems, and professional practice.
