Michael Murphy is Professor of Transfusion Medicine at the University of Oxford and Consultant Haematologist for NHS Blood & Transplant (NHSBT) and the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He provides leadership for hospital transfusion and immunohaematology services at Oxford University Hospitals.

His research focuses on blood transfusion safety, leveraging technology and systematic reviews to improve clinical practices. His work has influenced NHS policies, including the Quality, Innovation and Productivity (QIPP) initiative, with potential annual savings exceeding £50 million if implemented nationwide.
