About
Michael Monteiro is Professor in the School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences at the University of Queensland's Faculty of Science and Senior Group Leader at the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN).
His research pioneers complex polymer architectures using living radical polymerization, with applications in nanotechnology, drug delivery, and vaccine development. His group developed temperature-directed self-assembly techniques for anisotropic nanostructures and antiviral nanocoatings tested on the International Space Station.
Recent publications demonstrate advances in:
- Antipathogenic nanostructures for surface sanitization
- Sequence-defined dendritic macromolecules
- Shape-controlled polymeric vaccine delivery systems
- Cancer-targeting nanomaterials and stem cell enrichment
Honored with ARC QEII Fellowship (2004), ARC Future Fellowship (2009), and UQ Vice Chancellor Fellowship (2015).
