Michael McQuarrie is Director of the Center for Work and Democracy and Associate Professor in the T. Denny Sanford School of Social and Family Dynamics at Arizona State University, with an additional appointment in the School of Social Transformation. His research addresses the political marginalization of working people through studies of governance, protest, and civil society.
Research Focus: McQuarrie's scholarship examines urban governance transformations, protest repertoires, and the relationship between place and politics. Current ethnographic research analyzes community responses at George Floyd Square in Minneapolis. Additional projects investigate care politicization, right-wing populism, and social movement dynamics across global contexts including New York, Cleveland, Mumbai, London, and Berlin.
