Dr. Michael Lynch is a Senior Lecturer in Language Studies at the University of Edinburgh’s Moray House School of Education and Sport, affiliated with the Institute for Education, Teaching & Leadership (IETL). He holds a PhD and extensive experience in Modern Languages education, spanning 11 years as a teacher/principal teacher and 29 years in teacher education.
Education: MA (French & Italian), PGCE Secondary (French/Italian), PhD. He is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and holds full registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland.
Research focuses on Modern Language Learning/Teaching, Second Language Acquisition, Plurilingualism, and Bilingualism. He has led projects like the National Framework for Languages (NFfL) and developed a MOOC on Mentoring. Current initiatives include the Playing Beyond CLIL Framework for Assessment.
Key contributions include conference presentations at BAAL SIG (2015), SERA (2016), and World CLIL (2022). Supervised 4 PhD candidates, with expertise in mentoring and teacher cognition. Leadership roles include Programme Director of PGDE Secondary and Depute Head of IETL.
