About
Dr. Michael Klein is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biological Sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He holds a Ph.D. in Neuropharmacology & Neuroscience from Albany Medical College (2012) and a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from SUNY Albany (2006). His postdoctoral work at the Vanderbilt Center for Neuroscience Drug Discovery (2011-2013) focused on serotonin receptor pharmacology and muscarinic receptor research in collaboration with AstraZeneca.
Dr. Klein's research centers on the serotonin 5-HT1E receptor, investigating its molecular properties, signal transduction mechanisms, and therapeutic potential for memory deficits in Alzheimer's Disease. His work also explores GPCR dimerization and drug-induced receptor inactivation, contributing to neuropharmacology and drug discovery.
His teaching portfolio includes courses in Advanced Cell Biology, Introduction to Cell and Molecular Biology, and Biology in Popular Fiction. He emphasizes interdisciplinary research approaches, integrating techniques from biochemistry, neuroscience, and biomedical engineering.
