Michael Kareken is a Professor of Painting and Drawing at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD). His work explores landscapes through monotypes, watercolor, ink, and conte, focusing on subjective perspectives and revising techniques to evoke memory and atmosphere.
- Education: MFA, City University of New York-Brooklyn College; BFA, Bowdoin College
His research interests include landscape art's emotional and visual impact, using mixed media and experimental processes like additive/subtractive techniques on polyester plates and Duralar surfaces. His work is in major collections such as the Walker Art Center and Minneapolis Institute of Art.
- Awards & Grants: Louise Nevelson Award, Millay Colony residency, and grants from Bush, McKnight, and other foundations.
He has exhibited nationally and internationally, represented by Groveland Gallery (Minneapolis) and Davidson Galleries (Seattle).
