Michael J. Stern (Mike)

Michael J. Stern (Mike) is a Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Media & Information at Michigan State University. He previously held academic and research roles at NORC at the University of Chicago, the College of Charleston, and Oklahoma State University.

Research interests include

• Digital inequality in health information access
• The role of marginalized groups in internet and social media usage
• Mobile technology adoption and its societal impacts
• Methodological innovations in web and mobile survey design
• Data science techniques for combining survey and big data
• Qualitative methods in questionnaire development

His recent publications focus on survey methodology, digital communication, and mobile technology, with an emphasis on sampling accuracy, user experience, and addressing geographically-based coverage gaps.
