Michael J. Cirmo

Michael J. Cirmo is a Lecturer in Music (Percussion) at Hamilton College. With a career spanning decades, he has taught instrumental music at all levels, including roles at Whitesboro Central Schools (1985–2001), Marcellus High School (2001–2020), and as an adjunct professor at Hamilton College and Colgate University. He performs regularly with prestigious ensembles like the Glimmerglass Opera Orchestra and Symphoria, and his expertise includes percussion and instrumental conducting.

• Education: M.A. in Instrumental Performance (Percussion) with honors from Indiana University of Pennsylvania; B.M.E. with honors and a performer’s certificate in percussion from SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music.

Cirmo’s research and professional interests focus on music education, percussion techniques, and orchestral performance, informed by his studies with renowned figures such as Anthony Maiello and Craig Kirchoff. His career bridges academia and performance, with appointments in both teaching and conducting roles.
