Michael J. Cherry, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor and Research Scientist at the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, where he holds the endowed Stuart W. Stedman Chair for White-tailed Deer Research (serving since 2020). He earned his Bachelor’s in Forest Resources and Ph.D. in Wildlife Ecology and Management from the University of Georgia’s Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources. Previously, he was an Assistant Professor in Virginia Tech’s Department of Fish and Wildlife Conservation.
Dr. Cherry’s research focuses on applied wildlife ecology, emphasizing:
- Habitat-species interactions and land-use impacts
- Predator-prey dynamics (e.g., coyotes and white-tailed deer)
- Ungulate population management
- Effects of prescribed fire and habitat disturbances
