About
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Haist is a Professor of Building Materials at the Institute for Building Materials, Leibniz University Hannover, within the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy. His research focuses on rheology of cement-bound systems, creep and shrinkage of concrete, and sustainable construction materials. He holds a diploma in civil engineering from Karlsruhe University and has held roles including Chief Engineer at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and Visiting Scientist at MIT. He leads major projects like ReCyCONtrol and R-Clinker-Control, addressing digitalization and sustainability in concrete production. Notable awards include the Faculty Teaching Prize (2016) and the CEMEX Concrete Promotion Prize (2010). He teaches courses like 'Concrete Technology' and contributes to interdisciplinary initiatives such as the DAfStb guidelines for greenhouse gas reduction in construction.
Professional background: 1995–2001 studied at University of Karlsruhe; 2001–2009 research associate at Institute of Concrete Structures; 2009–2018 Chief Engineer and Head of Department at KIT. Since 2019, full professor at Leibniz University. Patents include a rheometer testing system.
Research interests span concrete rheology, sustainable materials, and failure mechanisms. Projects include DFG-funded R-Clinker-Control (2024) and BMWK-supported RTTS tunnel systems (2023). His work bridges academia and industry, emphasizing digital tools and environmental impact reduction.
